Helping hand for Pacific Island disaster relief

pacifika

The challenge:

Cyclone Gita in 2018 destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes in Tonga and Samoa, with many people still living under makeshift shelters and schools left with limited resources.

In a joint venture between Oamaru’s Waitaki Boys High School, the local Waitaki Tongan Community and the Pasifika Safe Shelter Trust, a collection of desks, chairs, laboratory tables, science and IT equipment, white boards and science books are being donated to Ha’apai High School in Tonga.

The Trust needed a safe and secure storage solution to transport the donated goods.

The solution:

Royal Wolf has vast experience in helping with disaster relief in both New Zealand and the Pacific and our team in Dunedin donated a 20-foot General Purpose (GP) shipping container to the team at Pasifika Safe Shelter Trust.

The result:

As a non-profit organisation Pasifika Safe Shelter Trust relies on the support of business and volunteers in the community.

Through the work of volunteers at the Trust, the students of Waitaki Boys, and, of course, our trusty GP container, the goods will be delivered to Ha’apai early this year to be put to use throughout the 2020 school year and beyond.

Royal Wolf is proud to be able to lend a helping hand to an organisation providing valuable aid to those in need.
