Container, bikes, America’s Cup. Action!

Container, bikes, America’s Cup. Action!

With Kiwi’s scrambling to get front row seats to watch America’s Cup racing, Auckland Council came up with a solution to ensure Maungauika / North Head was accessible to as many fans as possible.

As part of the Love Your Maunga ki Maungauika campaign and with limited car parking available around the Devonport landmark, the Council set up a valet bike service to encourage locals to ride to the prime viewing point.

Royal Wolf loved the concept and partnered with Council to provide a multi-purpose, open side container as a hub for the project.

“The container acts as a base for workers during the day, giving them shelter from the sun and the elements,” says Royal Wolf Business Development manager, Matthew Somerville.

"But, the real beauty of the container is that the bike stands, signage and other gear can be locked up safely overnight.”

With great views to all ends of the Hauraki Gulf, the headland has been a hugely popular vantage point with the bike valet service exceeding expectations with hundreds of people turning up on bikes to support Team New Zealand.

“We’re a big supporter of local community events and it’s great to support an initiative that encourages New Zealanders to get outdoors, get active, and enjoy the yacht racing,”says Somerville.
