Christchurch container facility expands to meet demand

Increased container capacity supports primary sector and region’s self-storage needs

Royal Wolf Christchurch

Leading shipping container supplier Royal Wolf has expanded its operation in Christchurch to help meet local demand and service the booming primary sector.

The company, which has 44 branches and facilities across New Zealand and Australia, redesigned and extended its site at Harewood in Christchurch to significantly increase container capacity.

To meet growing customer demand for storage solutions in the Canterbury region, the new facility has shipping container products for hire and sale as well as dedicated self-storage facilities.

Paul Creighton, Royal Wolf Executive General Manager, says while the construction sector in Christchurch and wider Canterbury region continues to be a significant contributor to the container industry the primary sector is where containers are currently most in demand.

“It is very much storage containers they are after for storing everything from grains and feed securely, through to the safe storage of sprays and pesticides. With the dairy sector in a particularly strong position, current demand for container products has increased significantly.

Creighton says office buildings on the site were also revamped as part of the redevelopment to accommodate increased staff levels.

“Having greater capacity in Christchurch means we can have the right product on hand to meet a customer’s needs and to ensure quick and efficient deployment of containers.”

Royal Wolf’s Christchurch facility has general storage and specialised shipping containers for hire or sale, and the capability to create customised container solutions to suit customers’ specific needs.

The company’s award-winning Wolf Lock Container has been hugely successful in the region since being released two years ago by providing customers with a higher level of safety through removing the risk of people getting locked inside and using a single lever to open.

“Containers are an incredibly strong and solid structure, but they’re also very adaptable so there really is no limit to what you can use them for and make out of them,” says Mr Creighton.

Royal Wolf containers are used extensively across a wide range of sectors in New Zealand and are ideal for everything from the storage of products, transporting and storing dangerous goods, and temporary accommodation to use in the construction, local and central government, and community sectors.

“The beauty of Royal Wolf is that it can provide everything from simple and reliable storage solutions through to modified and bespoke containers that take the shape of everything from toilet facilities or architecturally designed office space. We can modify them to whatever a customer wants.”
